Kelly Ontiveros is a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. She obtained her Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary in San Diego, and a Bachelors of Arts in Interpersonal Communication from Arizona State University.
Kelly specializes in treating trauma, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, issues in marital connection and intimacy, and affair recovery. After completing her master’s work, Kelly joined a team of therapists in San Diego where she gained extensive training in psychodynamic therapy, which addresses family of origin issues, wounding messages from childhood, and attachment styles expressed in relationships. Kelly has also received training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. She is skilled at helping couples recover from affairs, address losses of intimacy and connection, strengthen attachment, and adjust to life stressors. She also provides pre-martial counseling for couples who are dating or engaged.
Kelly is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Somatic Experiencing (SE) which helps those struggling to heal from traumatic experiences, anxiety, and depression. Kelly has in- depth training and over eight years of experience working with survivors of sexual, physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse. Kelly utilizes mindfulness and body-based approaches that help clients incorporate compassion and self-acceptance. Kelly offers spiritual direction to clients that request it as a part of their therapeutic work. Spiritual direction is a contemplative Christian practice that invites God into the process of healing.
Kelly is passionate about helping couples, individuals, and families. She works with her clients from a wholistic perspective, addressing behaviors, thoughts, emotions, spirituality, and the body. She understands and believes in the importance of establishing a safe therapeutic relationship that fosters healing and growth. She will work with you to build an individualized treatment plan that specifically addresses your concerns.
