Licensed Professional Counselor, Owner, Managing Partner - Practice Operations

Dr. John Michael is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and Managing Partner and co-owner of Professional Counseling Associates with Dr. Raymond Branton. Dr. Michael also founded Lifetime Marriage, LLC in 2002, a counseling practice that includes serving couples in pre-marital and Marriage Restoration Intensives. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary and a Doctorate in Psychology from Kennedy-Western University. Since 1993, Dr. Michael’s vast professional background includes social work in foster placement, residential treatment for adolescents, human resources, and sports-performance counseling with professional athletes.

Dr. Michael grew up in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas and enrolled at Grand Canyon College where he played baseball and studied psychology. After college, John started his career as a Juvenile Probation Officer. This launched his journey in higher learning and long career in counseling and teaching. In 1996, Dr. Michael returned to Arizona and was hired by the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks to be the Employee Relations Manager and Employee Assistance Program Director. During his 11-year tenure as the Diamondbacks’ counselor, Dr. Michael also served in the community with local ministries and counseling organizations as a counselor, speaker, and consultant, helping individuals, couples and families thrive.

After his work with the Diamondbacks, Dr. Michael simultaneously grew his private counseling practice and worked at Arizona Christian University as the Counseling Center Supervisor and part-time faculty. While working to grow his counseling practice, Dr. Michael joined the Professional Counseling Associates team, and has helped grow the practice to its current level.

With two office locations, Dr. Michael and the counselors at Professional Counseling Associates (PCA) and Lifetime Marriage, are committed to helping people through their difficult times with professional, faith-based, and compassionate counseling. Dr. Michael’s specialties include marriage counseling, counseling intensives, and helping individuals through depression, anxiety, and addiction issues. He is available to schedule hourly, weekly sessions, as well as blocks of time for more intensive work. Dr. Michael also schedules speaking and teaching events for groups, churches, and ministries.

John and his wife Julie have been married since 1990 and live in Scottsdale, Arizona and are members of Scottsdale Bible Church.
