I am Dr. Mary Kalpakoff and I thank you for considering working with me. I know it can take great courage to seek help, and to believe in a more abundant life. The truth is, personal growth can be a steep mountain to climb. Thankfully, we do not have to do it alone and we are not meant to! Together we can make your healing journey and view at the top, a powerful story to tell! As Denzel Washington put it, "To get something you’ve never had, you have to do something you never did.”
I have the privilege and honor to walk alongside individuals on their path of growth. I believe mental health treatment can be a space of not only symptom reduction, but also of personal transformation. I offer individual and couples therapy to adults (18+). Areas of focus in my clinical practice include: PTSD/trauma, relationship issues with self and others (e.g., self-esteem, self-compassion, communication, assertiveness, boundaries, co-dependency, healing from infidelity/betrayal), singleness, dating, marriage, and spiritual issues. Other areas I treat: anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment issues, stress, and life transitions (e.g., break-ups, divorce, retirement, exploring purpose).
have training in evidence-based psychotherapies. Treatments I may utilize include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment-informed, Emotion Efficacy Therapy (EET), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Seeking Safety, mindfulness, positive psychology, and person-centered therapy.
Additionally, it is an honor and joy to offer Christian Counseling and/or faith integration, if my client wants and consents to this. However, if you hold a different worldview or belief system, you are warmly welcomed. I strive to create a safe, welcoming, trusting, respectful, and empowering environment for all. I have experience working in large health care systems (e.g., including a PTSD Residential Rehabilitation Program), community mental health, and private practice.
I earned my Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) and Master of Arts in Psychology (M.A.) from The Wright Institute (Berkeley, CA). I earned my Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, FL), with a major in Psychology and Minor in Dance. I also completed coursework at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia). I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and APA-accredited postdoctoral residency in the PTSD Division at The Miami VA Healthcare System. I am thankful to have received well-rounded generalist training (e.g., rotation in a primary care setting) as well as specialty training in PTSD, Substance Use Disorders, and Serious Mental Illness.
If you think I may be a good fit, I welcome you to reach out! I am happy to further discuss and answer any questions. Thank you.
